The City of Chamblee held a socially distant Ribbon Cutting for its Public Safety Building for a small number of attendees Friday, March 19, 2021. The 50,000-square-foot public safety building and 17-acre public park land was purchased in late November 2017. Located at 4445 Buford Highway, the building houses the Chamblee Police Department, Municipal Court operations and a publicly accessible 2,700-square-foot Community Room. Construction lasted 15 months.
“The Police Department is an anchor for Buford Highway,” said Chamblee City Manager Jon Walker. “It’s the first city building there, and we think it is going to bring our presence to Buford Highway. Our officers are so excited to be part of the community there.”
The new park space includes a dog park and an outdoor fitness space, with amenities such as ellipticals, exercise bikes, callisthenic stations, and pull-up bars. Public parking will connect the public safety facility and park space and will serve as joint parking for public safety facility visitors and park attendees. It also will serve as overflow parking for the adjacent Dresden Park. A ribbon cutting on the park will be held at a later date.
The city plans to host an open house for the building tentatively this fall after vaccinations are more widespread, but in the meantime, a virtual tour will be on the city website in a few days.
