[ARCHIVED] Buford Highway Master Plan

The Atlanta Regional Commission and the Cities of Chamblee and Doraville are hosting an evening gathering on Buford Highway to imagine the future of the area as a vibrant, beautiful, and welcoming place for everyone. Residents, business owners, community members, and interested guests are invited to participate in the first Community Forum for the Buford Highway Master Plan on Wednesday, October 12, from 7-9 PM, at Canton House. Appetizers and drinks will be served.

The forum is a public occasion for Buford Highway community members to come together to share their appreciation of the area as well as ideas and dreams for the future of Buford Highway. The planning team leading the Buford Highway Master Plan will discuss the planning process, the plan’s objectives, and opportunities for everyone to become more involved in shaping Buford Highway.

“The Buford Highway corridor is a truly unique place, and the Buford Highway Master Plan will provide a visionary blueprint to make this area even more incredible for everyone,” said lead planner and urban designer Aaron Fortner. “We are excited about this opportunity for Buford Highway community members and business owners to meet one another and share their dreams in a fun environment."

The purpose of the Buford Highway Master Plan is to provide a community-based vision and plan to revitalize and enhance the Buford Highway corridor by promoting Buford Highway’s multicultural diversity while advancing multimodal forms of transportation, increased mobility and safety, and an enhanced quality of life, including housing opportunities, for residents, workers, and visitors of all ages and incomes.

The planning and community engagement process will run from now through February 2017. To learn more about Buford Highway Master Plan, visit buhimasterplan.com.

The Buford Highway Master Plan is part of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative, a program that helps communities envision and fund sustainable growth through planning studies and transportation projects in metro area downtowns, activity centers, and corridors.
