The Traffic Unit handles a variety of traffic safety related duties and responsibilities. It places a heavy emphasis on the enforcement of traffic laws in order to make the streets safer by reducing the frequency and severity of traffic crashes. The officers in the unit ride motorcycles and drive regular patrol vehicles. They are responsible for responding to citizen traffic complaints and providing selective traffic enforcement. Officers assigned to the unit are required to successfully complete extensive state training in accident reconstruction. Traffic officers are also Certified Child Safety Seat Technicians.
